The mid-term congressional elections is on Tuesday, 8th November 2022.

It is no exaggeration to say that democracy in the USA hangs in the balance in this election.

Democracy in a two-party system works when both parties are willing to commit to the peaceful transfer of power.

Democracy cannot survive if the election reality for one party is their win only with the other side never being able to win.

History is replete with examples of autocratic regimes gaining power by democratic means – the greatest example of this is Nazi Germany in 1932.

Economies never flourish under autocratic regimes, and culture never thrives.

What is happening in the USA is unthinkable – with extremists targeting everything from the way votes are cast to the way votes are counted.

This has far-reaching implications not just for the USA but for the globe.
