Iraq War IED Blast

The Best of Times and The Worst of Times

So the New York times is suing Open AI for billions for using it’s content to train Chat GPT by bypassing pay walls and not paying for the training.

AI seems have come to the party with a promise to transform the world – to earn greater profits for those who control the tech and wreak havoc at the worst of times when the world is already experiencing wars that dislocate millions and climate change that threatens to cause further massive social disruptions.

Look at the war in Ukraine, it is a war fuelled by AI powered drones. Who can produce more killer drones is a large part of the arms race and drones are being used in every aspect of this brutal war. Your survival in this war is based on how well you can hide in bunkers from killer drones circling overhead.

Meantime climate change is accelerating in pace of change is accelerating and has the potential to cause mass displacement alongside the displacement across the globe from wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and more.

France has seen massive protests because of the retirement age being increased by two years from 62 to 64.

Now imagine the climate change dislocation, social dislocation from wars and add to that massive protests due to mass job losses from implementation of AI – because that is the only way AI is viable financially and is the the aim of AI.

Talking of job losses, there is a lot of hype about driver less cars going mainstream – there goes all the Uber driver and cab jobs – though interested to see how this AI powered tech tackles the roads in the cities of Asia.

Now driver less cars will be great news for terrorists. See it is obviously hard to get hold of enough fanatics who are willing to blow themselves up for a cause – thankfully, now imagine driver less cars filled with explosives and ten or twenty sent at a target – the very best or worst of car bombs supercharged by AI….

Talking of unintended or intended deadly weapons, the Houthis of Yemen has recently created havoc with AI powered drones alongside more conventional missiles to disrupt shipping in the Red Sea and even in the Indian Ocean.

So how long before some terrorist group gets hold of military drones and starts taking aim at passenger flights flying at cruising altitude…another disastrous unmanageable risk as a by product of use of AI

If the trade off what AI can be used for – good and bad is assessed, the bad and not so good uses will create social havoc. undermine business confidence and accelerate the impact of climate change and already simmering wars.

We have truly a limited amount of time to make good of all the human intelligence and endeavor to find and migrate to another planet. That is the ultimate challenge and despite best efforts we are not anywhere near good progress in that endeavour.

In the mean time we are creating more social unrest by dabbling in things like AI which is all about bigger, faster and more money and profits wrapped in supposedly noble human endeavours.
