Peace in our times – said Neville Chamberlain in sept 1938 waving a piece of paper signed by Herr Hitler promising peace in return for half of Czechoslovakia.
Today on the grim milestone of two years of the war on Ukraine, my thoughts on what will happen if Ukraine fell or was forced to cede land for peace in Europe.
Chamberlain’s Peace in Europe cost the Czechs half their country including Sudetenland and the natural mountain borders which were a impenetrable barrier for the Nazi panzers.
Within six months of the Surrender at Munich, Czechoslovakia ceased to exist and became the Nazi protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.
Chamberlain’s peace was obliterated in Sept 1939 with the Gleiwitz incident and the invasion of Poland as the opening of WW2.. If Ukraine fell, will history repeat in the same way? It is hard to say but there are enough possibilities exist that the scenarios which evolve with the fall of Ukraine do not lead to Peace in Europe – far from it ….
Here’s hoping for the sake of the world, Ukraine prevails in this fight against darkness
